Will Rangers top stars be sold on?
General view of Ibrox – Rangers
Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has warned that the club will look to cash in on their players when the time is right.
Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Robertson said that Rangers will need to sell at the right price in order to close the financial gap on Celtic.
A fine balance will have to be struck of course, to prevent the on pitch gap widening between the two teams as a result.
Robertson said: “If we are to close the gap then we have to close the revenue gap. How do you do that? Well one of the revenue streams we’ve not had has been player trading.
“We need to look at how we trade the squad and make money off that and it will be a key part of it going forward.”
Rangers’ Barrie McKay was linked away from the club last month
There is not a suggestion any sales will be made immediately, but Rangers are certainly open to the idea.
This makes sense with new boss Pedro Caixinha looking to bring in his own players, and shift ones he is not keen to work with next season, which makes these next few months crucial as he gets to know the squad.
Rangers’ desire to trade away their players is something they can do now they are in the top flight as the squad increases in quality, in comparison to their spell in the lower divisions where the market values of the players were far reduced.
