Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph revealed that Everton want to sign Anwar El Ghazi.

What’s the story?

Well, Aston Villa are trying to sign Lucas Digne, who is available after falling out with Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park.

In an unrelated approach – according to The Telegraph – Everton are hoping to sign El Ghazi, who the Villans value at £15m.

The 26-year-old has found game time hard to come by this season, making just four Premier League starts for Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, the Toffees see something in him that they admire, and are trying to lure him to Merseyside.

According to the Guardian, Everton would prefer a loan deal for the 2-cap Netherlands international.

In our view, that would be much better than spending £15m on a player who isn’t even a regular starter.

Aston Villa could embarrass Everton

If Steven Gerrard ends up bringing Digne to Villa Park, while also getting £15m for El Ghazi, it would be incredible business from the Villans.

According to the Guardian, Everton want £25m for the French left-back.

Therefore, it’s possible that Aston Villa end up signing Digne in what would effectively be a player-plus-cash deal.

In our view, parting ways with a player who spends most weekends on the bench, in exchange for a 43-cap France international and £10m, would be great work from those at Villa Park.

However, the toxic atmosphere at Goodison Park could go up a notch if this happens, as Everton supporters may feel the club has been embarrassed.

Additionally, the fact Benitez is dealing with Gerrard – both of whom are Liverpool legends – could potentially make the Everton fans even more angry.

For now, let’s see what the Aston Villa supporters on Twitter have been saying about Everton, Digne and El Ghazi…
