Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after le10sport revealed that a bid has been submitted to Lyon for Houssem Aouar.

What’s the story?

Well, the French news outlet believe Arsenal have submitted a bid for the Frenchman, who they targeted in 2020 as well.

Le10sport claim that the Gunners have monitored the 23-year-old for many years now, and have now firmed up their admiration with an offer.

The exact value of the bid is not disclosed.

However, le10sport write that Lyon want around €20m – €25m (£17m – £21m) for the midfielder, and Arsenal’s offer isn’t far away from that valuation.

Mikel Arteta and Edu made one bid for Aouar last summer, which was worth €35m (£30m) according to ESPN.

After that was rejected, the north Londoners never submitted a second.

Mikel Arteta wants creativity

Arsenal were awful in front of goal last season, scoring just 55 goals in 38 Premier League games.

Eight teams scored more goals than them.

Now, it seems Arteta is trying to find someone to create more chances for his forwards.

The Gunners have been linked with Leicester’s James Maddison, Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli, and also Emi Buendia, who joined Aston Villa.

All three are creative midfielders, so it’s interesting that Arsenal have now resurrected their pursuit of Aouar.

Perhaps the north Londoners have found deals for Maddison and Locatelli too difficult to complete.

In our view, it makes sense to target Aouar now. Arsenal have done plenty of homework on him, and Lyon are open to his departure.

Nevertheless, let’s see how the Arsenal fans on Twitter reacted to le10sport‘s news…
