Not many people would turn down an invitation to one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings in recent memory!
But if there’s one person who sticks to his own rules, it’s NBA legend Charles Barkley.
During an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic’s Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo, the 11-time NBA All-Star revealed that he was invited to the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce but chose not to attend.
His reason, however, had little to do with the couple.
Charles Barkley Reveals Why He Skipped Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding
Barkley explained the personal rule he follows when it comes to major life events. “I don’t go to weddings or funerals”, he said.
The Hall of Famer added that he politely declined the invitation because he expected the star-studded ceremony to be “too much” for him.
Barkley joked that rather than dressing up and attending a high-profile celebration, he’d rather spend his offseason playing golf.
Barkley Emphasizes the Decision Wasn’t Personal
Despite skipping the ceremony, Barkley emphasized that there were no hard feelings.
He mentioned the great relationship with Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce, and has met Taylor Swift before.
Barkley also described receiving the invitation as “pretty special,” adding that he genuinely appreciated the gesture, even though he knew he wasn’t going to attend.
For Barkley, it wasn’t about turning down one of the most high-profile invitations of the year. It was simply an example of him sticking to a personal rule, even when the rest of the celebrity world was heading to the much-celebrated wedding.
