Italian media outlet TuttoNapoli have praised on-loan Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for his display in the Champions League on Wednesday night – coming off the bench for Napoli during a 4-2 win over Dutch side Ajax.
The 25-year-old Spurs midfielder clocked up his third start on Sunday during a 4-1 win over Serie A side Cremonese. He was on the bench against Ajax, but he entered the fray on 49 minutes – clocking up the majority of the second 45.
With Napoli just conceding to Davy Klaassen, making the scoreline 2-1 to Napoli. Eventually, the Italian side went on to win 4-2 with Luciano Spalletti excelling in his position as manager. Ndombele was effective in the middle of the park.
TuttoNapoli wrote a player ratings piece following the end of the fixture. They praise Ndombele, handing the ex-Lyon midfielder a rating of 6.5/10 – decent, given he was a sub. They saw he was “dangerous” from the moment he came on.

“He entered the match very well, in a phase that is not easy in which Ajax were finding good positions in the final third, but he was immediately dangerous. On another attempt, he also obtained a penalty for Napoli to go 3-1 up.”
Italian media praise Tottenham midfielder Ndombele for Napoli display
It was a decent showing from Ndombele and further proof that under the guidance of Spalletti, he is getting better. But one thing does remain consistent from his time at Tottenham. His inability to complete an entire 90 minutes.
But in the game time he is giving to Napoli, he is at least showing good form. If he has any hope of rekindling his Spurs career, he needs to be able to start playing 90 minutes on a regular basis again. It might take a few months.
At least, unlike other players, he is likely to be overlooked by France and will have the World Cup to rest before the season restarts after December 18. Certainly if he does return to Spurs, there are others ahead in the rankings.
