Danish media have heaped enormous praise on Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as Denmark edged past Austria to win 2-1 on Monday night. Hojbjerg scored his fifth goal for Denmark.
The 26-year-old was fresh from laying on an assist in Denmark’s excellent 2-1 win over France last week, and continued his good form with the opening goal. He got on the end of a Rasmus Kristensen cross to poke home.
Austria did equalise after the hour mark, but Jens Stryger Larsen got the winner on 84 minutes. Hojbjerg is showing no signs of slowing down, in what was his 57th game for club and country during 2021-22.

Incredibly, Hojbjerg could take that to 59 in all competitions with Denmark still having two more games to play. Danish outlet Sport TV2 gave him 5/5 stars, saying he was his country’s best player on Monday night.
“Again, the best Dane. He overcomes the most incredible players. Unlike his teammates, he is not affected by the hardships of a tough season; despite playing more than all the others,” Sport TV2 report.

He deserves all of the praise he gets. Hojbjerg has been a crucial part of Tottenham’s midfield over the last two seasons, a real warrior. A leader on and off the pitch, all at the age of just 26.
In just two seasons for Spurs, he has already played 101 times and it would have been a whole lot more but for an early exit from the Conference League. To churn out such a display in his 57th game this term, is incredible.
