Bryan Gil made his second debut for Sevilla on Sunday away at Barcelona after leaving Tottenham to return to his boyhood club on loan for the second half of the season – and Spanish media have given their verdict on the winger.
Gil, 21, joined Spurs from Sevilla in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £21.6million plus Erik Lamela. Just 18 months later, the Spain winger has now rejoined Sevilla – and Lamela. It comes after just 31 appearances for the North London side.
He came off the bench at half-time for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, with the scoreline locked at 0-0. But Sevilla ended up losing the game 3-0. Jordi Alba, Gavi and Raphinha got the goals for Barcelona – the latter finally improving at Barca.
Gil might have been criticised by Spanish media given Sevilla were drawing with Barca before his entry into the match. But Spanish outlet El Desmarque gave their verdict on his cameo role, lasting 45 minutes. They have him a 5/10 rating.

“He is given the benefit of the doubt because at least he tried some nice action in the 45 mins he had,” El Desmarque reported on Sunday evening, as Gil clocked up only his 22nd outing for Sevilla – the 111th senior game of his career.
Spanish media have given verdict on Tottenham winger Gil after debut
Gil is well-regarded in Spain. A return to Sevilla is sure to get the best out of him if Sampaoli is given the chance to start games regularly – more so, than the majority of other clubs. But, it is whether he is allowed to start most matches.
If Gil is to have a future at Spurs under Antonio Conte, he really needs this loan at Sevilla to work. While he was good on loan at Valencia last season, he managed just one goal involvement in 17 games. He needs to score and create.
