Nathangelo Markelo is set to be given a chance by Everton in pre-season it seems.

What a massive month it could be for Everton prospect Nathangelo Markelo.

The 20-year-old defender helped David Unsworth’s Toffees Under-23 side to a Premier League 2 title last season and it looks like he is making the right kind of impression at Finch Farm.

In fact, he has been so impressive that the Dutchman is set to train with Everton’s senior side this summer after revealing that the club’s Director of Football Marcel Brands personally promoted him.

Markelo also revealed that he is a sought-after player for prospective loan clubs, but that his compatriot Brands did not recommend a short-term move away from Merseyside just yet.

He told Voetbal International: “We have a chat every now and then. He is a friendly guy and I can always ask him for a advice when we have a cup of coffee. He is always an interested spectator when the reserves play.

“He told me I would be called up for the pre-season training camp with the first team. Some clubs would like to have me on loan but Mr Brands insisted that was not a good idea yet.”

If Markelo does the business in Marco Silva’s training sessions then could it lead to Premier League chances this coming season? Who knows, because Everton have lofty ambitions.

Then again, if he holds his own against the likes of Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes then maybe, just maybe, it would convince the Portuguese manager to use him.
