Rangers youngster Nathan Young-Coombes has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that the Ibrox club have a better academy than Chelsea do.

Young-Coombes joined Rangers in January 2019 after leaving Premier League club Chelsea on a contract that runs until 2021, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The 16-year-old forward joined the Rangers youth academy, and the promising and teenager has a bright future ahead of him.

The youngster was at Crystal Palace before he made the move to Chelsea, and he has opened up on the lack of opportunities at the two London clubs.

Young-Coombes has also praised the Rangers academy, and believes that the youth system at the Gers is much better than the one at Chelsea.

Young-Coombes told The Glasgow Evening Times: “People think that down south you will get better opportunities, but I can tell you that is the complete opposite.

“I was at Crystal Palace and Chelsea and you don’t get the same opportunities as you get up here. I was surprised by the quality, the professionalism up here. Down south, when I was at Chelsea, you get told that Chelsea is the best Academy, it is this, it is that.

“But when you look here and compare the two, I think ‘wow, if Chelsea really think they are the best, what are Rangers at the moment?’

“It is a step ahead and the thing that really impresses me the most is that Rangers are always looking to improve. It is not about thinking they are better than anyone else, it is how can we be better?”

Rangers and Chelses

Chelsea are a much richer club than Rangers are, and at Stamford Bridge, managers are under a lot of pressure to win major trophies.

One can understand why Chelsea are reluctant to give chances to young players, as first-team managers simply cannot take the risk, especially when they have already established players at their disposal.

As for Rangers, in recent years, the Gers have signed young players and have given chances to footballers irrespective of their age, and that trend is likely to continue for a while.
