Rangers have confirmed the Ibrox exit of goalkeeper Andy Firth on a permanent deal this summer after his contract came to an end – and both Nathan Patterson and Connor Goldson were among those to react.
Firth, 25, has spent the last three and a half years at Rangers – acting as back-up to Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin. More recently, he has probably been considered fourth choice behind Robby McCrorie.

Just one outing came at Rangers since he joined the club during Steven Gerrard’s reign, a substitute display during a 2-1 loss to Kilmarnock. But he clearly has a solid relationship with the Rangers players in the dressing room.
It is not unusual for clubs to have goalkeepers who are rarely ever seen – but even after three and a half years with Rangers, he might have liked to play more than once. Nevertheless, he posted on Instagram.
Rangers have confirmed Firth exit: Goldson, Patterson and others react
It is intriguing to see where Firth will end up next. He came through the Liverpool academy but has played most of his games at the likes of Chester and Barrow on loan. A move to a lowly English club is likely.
Even a loan spell at Partick Thistle failed to give Firth any game time earlier this season. But given how well-liked he is at Ibrox, he could get himself a move to a bigger club as a back-up goalkeeper.
Everton star Patterson, who left Rangers in January for Goodison Park and Goldson – who has just signed a four-year deal – reacted on his post, among plenty of others.
