Nathan Oduwa admits being shocked by Ovie Ejaria quitting Rangers

Glasgow Rangers recently announced that Ovie Ejaria’s loan spell at Ibrox had been cut short.

Nathan Oduwa has told the Daily Record that he was stunned by Ovie Ejaria’s decision to leave Rangers midway through his loan spell, and admitted that he fears that the midfielder could regret returning to his parent club prematurely.

It surprised many when it was rumoured last week that Ejaria wanted to leave the Gers just a few months into a season-long loan. It was soon announced that he was indeed returning to Liverpool.

His exit did not seem to hurt the Ibrox faithful too much. There were glimpses of his talent and quality during his time with the club, but he had arguably been overshadowed by fellow Reds loanee Ryan Kent.

Nevertheless, Oduwa – who spent a spell on loan with the Gers during their promotion-winning season under Mark Warburton – admitted that he was taken aback by Ejaria’s decision, and fears that the 21-year-old will soon be disappointed for leaving now.

“I was totally shocked to see that Ovie cut his loan move short,” he told the Daily Record.

“It is unfortunate that the loan hasn’t worked out. I just hope that he has not made a big career mistake and that he regrets leaving Rangers when he did. I hope Ovie has no regrets because he is a talented footballer and has lots of potential.”

In fairness to Ejaria, it would be unfair to criticise his decision too strongly when it is perhaps not clear whether the full story behind his decision has been disclosed.

And while his exit is a distraction that Steven Gerrard would have preferred to avoid, the decision has come in time for Rangers to make plans to replace Ejaria when the January transfer window opens.
