West Ham winger Nathan Holland was called up to the first team to face Oxford United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

It was the chance he had been waiting for, but unfortunately it did not go to plan.

As it turned out, this was not a performance anybody at West Ham will relish being associated with.

The Hammers lost 4-0 to League One side Oxford and crashed out of the competition.

Holland sent a message to West Ham fans last night about the win, reflecting on the performance. He said he was glad to be given a chance.

Holland had been in top form for the under-23s this season coming into the game.

The winger now may have to wait a while for his next opportunity with West Ham eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

It’s unfortunate for him, and he will now have to work twice as hard to catch manager Manuel Pellegrini’s eye.
