Chelsea defender Ake is on loan at AFC Bournemouth for the 2016/17 season but has had limited game time.

For a young player, going on loan has the primary purpose of getting game time. However, for AFC Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, this has not been the case and he has expressed his dismay to Voetbal International.

Ake, who arrived at the Vitality Stadium on a season-long deal in the summer from Chelsea, has seen his first-team action severely limited to just 12 Premier League minutes this season, as well as an appearance in the EFL Cup.

And what is more, with Bournemouth now out of the EFL Cup there won’t be as many opportunities for Ake to put his name in the reckoning barring injury to a member of the Cherries’ first team.

The 21-year-old, speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, said: “The competition at my club is great. For now I’m still on the bench. It eats you, I want to play every week.”

Ake’s frustration is palpable, especially given the fact that he has been farmed out on loan for the past three seasons. It appeared that he may have had his crucial breakthrough last season at Watford, after an outstanding season saw him named Watford’s Young Player of the Year.

But outstanding performances from a regular and assured back four of Adam Smith, Steven Cook, Simon Francis and Charlie Daniels has seen limited action for the rest of Bournemouth’s defensive regiment.
