Jay Spearing has secured a shock return to Liverpool.
The 33-year-old has signed for Liverpool once again in a player-coach role.
Spearing, who came through the Reds’ famed academy, has been appointed as the club’s Under-18 manager.
However, he will also be eligible to play for their Under-21s, according to the Anfield side’s official website.
He most recently had a two-year spell with Tranmere Rovers, having also played for Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers since leaving Liverpool permanelty nine years ago.

Spearing received plenty of support in the comment section.
Nat Phillips was among the current Liverpool senior players who reacted, with the big defender writing: “All the best pal and see you soon”, while Emile Heskey wrote simply, “Congratulations mate.”
Spearing hasn’t officially retired but this is an indication that he’s phasing out his football career and gradually moving from the pitch to the dug out.
But as mentioned, the tenacious midfielder will still more than likely make appearances for the reserves in what has been described as an ‘innovative‘ new role by The Liverpool Echo.
