Denny Hamlin’s victory in the FireKeepers Casino 400 has significantly tightened the NASCAR Cup Series championship battle heading into Pocono Raceway.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver secured his second consecutive victory at Michigan International Speedway while championship leader Tyler Reddick endured his first DNF of the 2026 season.

As a result, Hamlin has reduced Reddick’s points advantage from 97 points to just 51.

Denny Hamlin gains ground on Tyler Reddick after Michigan win

Reddick remains at the top of the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 669 points despite a difficult afternoon at Michigan.

However, his championship lead took a major hit after finishing 35th, allowing Hamlin to close the gap following back-to-back victories.

Ryan Blaney remains third in the standings with 512 points, while Chase Elliott and Ty Gibbs complete the top five.
