Napoli boss Rafa Benitez wants to add Javier Mascherano to his squad but will have to wait on the result of a meeting in Barcelona tomorrow.
There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Javier Mascherano but everything should become clearer after a meeting with club officials tomorrow.
Napoli have been chasing the Argentine international for weeks with coach Rafa Benitez said to be desperate to be reunited with the ex-Liverpool man.
It has been reported that Mascherano is angry at being used as a defender instead of his preferred defensive midfield role and could quit Barcelona.
But now it appears that new coach Luis Enrique is willing to play Mascherano in midfield and may make him captain if he agrees to stay.
Napoli had reportedly failed to impress Mascherano with personal terms because the midfielder doesn’t want to move his family to Naples.
The Serie A side are said to have offered a contract worth £3.6m for a maximum of four years, which is the most they can afford.
Napoli are waiting on Mascherano before they do any other business and seem to have a deal for Maxime Gonalons of Lyon lined up if their primary objective chooses to stay put.
