Napoli will reportedly soon meet with Tottenham to sign Tanguy Ndombele, with the Serie A club eager to turn the Frenchman’s loan deal into a permanent one.
According to Foot Mercato, a meeting has been arranged for next week between the two sides as Napoli are now looking to sign Ndombele for good in January, with the midfielder currently on loan with the Italian giants until the end of the season.
As per the report, Napoli currently have a €30m (£25m) option to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent deal in the summer. However, the Italian league leaders are confident that they can both negotiate this asking price to a lower fee as well as activate as early as the January window.
Ndombele has been out on loan away from Tottenham since last January, with the former France international first returning to former club Olympique Lyonnais before signing for Napoli this summer, where the Neapolitan outfit have been impressed with what they have seen.
Ndombele has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Napoli, 13 of which have come in the league as Luciano Spalletti’s side sit comfortably at the top of the table. And for Tottenham, they could be more than open to offloading the midfielder in January.
Indeed, Ndombele played just seven games for Antonio Conte last season, and with the Italian manager eager to bring in his own players in January, selling the Frenchman could free up both wage space on the payroll and also recoup some funds to make a signing in the winter window.
Tottenham should allow Ndombele to sign for Napoli for good
Ndombele is clearly a talented player who has fallen into the trap many names have done in recent years in signing for Tottenham. Yet the midfielder could soon be handed a lifeline if the north London club agree to sell the 25-year-old to Napoli in January.
After all, Ndombele is clearly enjoying his football out in Naples, and with the Italian giants the clear favourites to win the Serie A title, the Italian side can make the risk next month to sign a top player for a decent fee, with the Tottenham man more than ideal for the job.
