Napoli will reportedly sit down with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s agent next week to discuss a new contract for the Georgian international amid rumours that Newcastle United are interested in the winger.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A leaders are ready to offer the 21-year-old a new deal worth almost double what Kvaratskhelia currently earns following an exceptional start to life in Italy, with the attacker only signing for Napoli in the summer.

The youngster has been arguably the breakout player in Europe this season with Kvaratskhelia scoring eight goals and bagging ten assists in all competitions as Napoli sit top of both the Italian top-flight and came first in their UEFA Champions League group stage.

As a result of such an incredible rise, Premier League interest has emerged, with the Times recently reporting that Newcastle are one of many English sides tracking Kvaratskhelia, who could be worth as much as £88m according to the player’s agent.

However, Napoli are being proactive about recent interest in Kvaratskhelia by choosing to sign the winger down to a new contract rather than cash in on the 21-year-old superstar, with the Naples-based club in their best position in years to win the Serie A title.

Indeed, Kvaratskhelia will no doubt earn a big-money move at some point in his career. Yet for Napoli, keeping the forward at the club for an extra season or two will be more important in the long-term than making a quick buck by selling the attacker in 2023.

Napoli have been on the receiving end of some huge transfers over the years, yet the Italian giants are making the right choice choosing to open contract talks with Kvaratskhelia despite how easy it would be for the Serie A side to make a huge sum of money on the Georgian star.

After all, the likes of Newcastle will remain interested in Kvaratskhelia for some time given how young the attacker is how exciting the prospect’s potential is, and Napoli could do themselves a favour in signing the winger to a new contract now when his stock is at its highest.
