Napoli have reportedly made contact to sign Azzedine Ounahi, with Leeds United and Newcastle United also chasing the Angers superstar following the midfielder’s breakout 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A league leaders have made the first move to sign the 22-year-old Morocco international with Napoli one of the many clubs keen on recruiting Ounahi in the January transfer window.
The youngster was one of the best players out in Qatar this winter, with Angers now listening to offers for their star player as FCInterNews claim that the Ligue 1 strugglers want at least £40m for the midfielder, with Leeds and Newcastle in the running.
90min reported that Eddie Howe’s side were interested in signing Ounahi, with AS Roma Live also claiming that Leeds are in the ever-growing pack for the midfielder. Though it appears that Napoli have now made steps to lead the chase for the World Cup sensation.

Highly regarded in France before the competition even took place, Ounahi’s stock has risen to a level nobody would have predicted before the World Cup. And Napoli, who have made some excellent transfer moves in the past few windows, are now looking to beat the likes of Leeds and Newcastle to the young midfielder.
Indeed, the Italian side have been sensational this season with Napoli currently sitting top of the Serie A table, and for Ounahi, signing for a European league leader could be a more enticing opportunity than signing for a Premier League side who have not even qualified for continental football in some years.
Napoli can land signing of the window in January in Ounahi

Ounahi’s rise in the last month has been unprecedented, with the 22-year-old one of Europe’s hottest properties after recently being quite an unknown in the world game, and for Napoli, the midfielder could be one the best signings the Italian giants could make in January.
Whilst interest from Leeds and Newcastle is enticing, Napoli are on a whole other level to the Premier League duo, and Ounahi signing for the European titans would be a big step in the right direction for the exciting African midfielder.
