Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United could make a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer target Nahitan Nandez, according to CalcioMercato.

What’s the story?

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Nandez will be back on the market when the transfer window opens in January.

Leeds wanted to sign the Cagliari midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to the report in the Italian news outlet, which has added that there are eyes on the Uruguay international from clubs in the Premier League.

One of those could well be Tottenham.

Tuttomercatoweb reported in August that Leeds were in talks over bringing Nandez from Cagliari, as covered here here on HITC Sport.

Cagliari sporting director Stefano Capozucca told L’Unione Sarda, via Tuttomercatoweb, earlier this month that Nandez had held talks with Tottenham among other clubs.

We covered the comments in full from Capozucca here on HITC Sport.

Leeds v Tottenham transfer battle?

La Nuovo Sardegna reported in the summer that Tottenham had actually made a bid for Nandez.

That bid, as we know now, did not come to fruition because the 25-year-old is still at Cagliari.

CalcioMercato‘s report that Premier League clubs remain interested in Nandez suggests that Spurs could still be keen on the Uruguayan just like Leeds.

Leeds did not sign a midfielder in the mould of Nandez in the summer transfer window, and neither did Spurs.

Both Spurs and Leeds are likely to monitor the 25-year-old in the coming months, and we should not be surprised if both the clubs make bids for him in January.
