Mauricio Pochettino side-stepped questions about Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, but did admit that the club were forever in his heart.
The Argentine is set to preside over his first match as a manager in 14 months after being appointed as Paris Saint-Germain head coach last week.
Pochettino’s side are away to St Etienne tonight.
And on the eve of the game, the 48-year-old was inevitably asked about Spurs, whom he managed from 2014 until 2019.
Pochettino failed to deliver a trophy in North London, but he did elevate the club to a new level entirely, establishing them in the Champions League and masterminding a route to the final in 2019.
He said yesterday: “Each club is different, with its culture and traditions. Talking about Tottenham is not objective because it is a club that is in my heart for life.”
Here’s how Tottenham fans reacted to the comments on Twitter:
The thing is, you completely believe Pochettino when he believes that he loves Tottenham.
He might – and probably will – win a lot of trophies in the French capital, but North London is where it all began in terms of proving himself an elite manager, having had stints with Espanyol and Southampton prior to that, and there’s no doubt that he accumulated a lot of happy memories with the Lilywhites.
