Ex-Rangers midfielder Ian McCall believes Derek McInnes is Ibrox-bound.

Former Rangers midfielder Ian McCall has told BBC Sport’s Sportsound that he thinks Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is ‘nailed on’ to become the next Gers manager.

Rangers sacked manager Pedro Caixinha last month after just seven months in the job, and the search is on for his replacement in the Ibrox dugout.

Caretaker Graeme Murty has won two in two in his second spell as caretaker manager this year, but one man has dominated conversation since Caixinha’s exit.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has been the favourite with bookmakers ever since Rangers sacked Caixinha, and yet no move has materialised so far.

The 46-year-old, who took the Aberdeen job in April 2013 after a disappointing spell with Bristol City, and has rebuild his reputation at Pittodrie, winning over 58% of his games in charge.

With three consecutive second-placed finishes, McInnes is no stranger to trying to chase down Celtic, and his history with Rangers – having played as a midfielder for the club – has seen many fans lobby for him to be the new Gers boss.

Others aren’t quite so convinced, and with the club’s managerial search entering a third week, former Gers midfielder Ian McCall has told BBC Sport’s Sportsound that he thinks McInnes is ‘nailed on’ to be the Rangers manager.

McCall says he can understand why Rangers are taking their time over an appointment, but despite the lack of an approach for the Aberdeen boss, he remains convinced that McInnes is nailed on to be in the Ibrox dugout.

“I think he’s nailed on,” said McCall. “I understand why the board are taking so long because it’s really important – Celtic have won six titles in a row, but I think he’s nailed on,” he added.
