Jamie Carragher has stated that Alisson ‘didn’t cover himself in glory’ during the opening goal Liverpool conceded against West Ham today, as he told Super Sunday on Sky Sports.

West Ham whipped in a corner straight down Alisson’s throat, which he failed to deal with, and Liverpool were 1-0 down inside four minutes.

Liverpool argued that Alisson was fouled during that moment, as he was crowded by numerous West Ham players.

Added with that, VAR checked Angelo Ogbonna’s elbow and possible handball as he jumped ahead of the shot-stopper.

Despite all that controversy, Carragher made it clear that there was no issue and Alisson simply had to do better.

“I don’t think he covers himself in glory Alisson,” said Carragher. “He has to do better.

“As you see that ball come in, he just doesn’t get anything on it when he goes with that left hand. They definitely crowd him. Nah, there’s not enough in that (to award a foul on Alisson).

“He has just not done well the goalkeeper. Gone with his left hand and completely missed it.

“He’s holding his head. Maybe just a right elbow comes across. I think this will be harsh if it’s not given. Right elbow from Ogbonna that stops Alisson’s right hand from coming through. Really difficult to tell.”

That wasn’t the only talking point during the game because there were several scattered across the 90 minutes, including Aaron Cresswell’s tackle on Jordan Henderson.

In the end, it was the home side who won an entertaining and nerve-racking game 3-2.

In truth, David Moyes’ side will feel they should have scored more given some of the one v one opportunities they created, along with other big moments.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men also created enough chances for themselves, as the Hammers move into third place and leapfrog the Merseyside club in the table.
