On-loan Celtic striker Nadir Ciftci finally broke his duck for Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday – but it was for the reserves in a Central League game against MK Dons.
The 25-year-old joined the League One side on loan from Celtic in the summer after Brendan Rodgers deemed him surplus to requirements.
But it hasn’t been going well for the Turkish striker, who cost the Hoops £1.5 million when then-manager Ronny Deila signed him from Dundee United in 2015.
Ciftci has not found the net in any of his first six League One games for the Pilgrims – all of which were starts – and also failed to score in their League Cup victory over Exeter.
He was unused substitution in Saturday’s defeat by Fleetwood Town but he put himself in contention for a game in the senior side this weekend by scoring in a 5-4 win against MK Dons’ reserves in a Central League affair.
According to a report in The Plymouth Herald, it was a tidy goal too as the Celtic loanee dinked the goalkeeper to put Argyle 3-2 up, though he was replaced at half time in a move which perhaps indicates he could feature on the weekend.
Joel Grant and Ruben Lameiras, neither of whom have managed a League One goal this season, both scored twice in today’s win.
