Hoffenheim’s creative dynamo has reportedly been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar for some time.
Germany are hardly lacking in the creative midfield department. However, if Nadiem Amiri maintains his current rate of progress, Joachim Low might find it increasingly difficult to ignore him in the coming years.
And it’s no surprise Mauricio Pochettino, a manager renowned for his belief in young players and his demands for high-paced technical football, has his eyes firmly set on the jewel in the crown of Bundesliga surprise packages Hoffenheim, Calciomercato report.
The publication claims that Spurs, not to mention Liverpool and Juventus, have been tracking Amiri’s progress in recent weeks and they will no doubt have been mightily impressed.
Amiri is diminutive yet dynamic, blessed with relentless work ethic, the ability to pick a pass and transition effectively between midfield and attack. In fact, he appears the perfect stylist fit for Pochettino’s Tottenham, a promising combination of Harry Winks and Christian Eriksen.
Despite an impressive tally of four assists from 19 Bundesliga appearances, however, a first-team berth at White Hart Lane remains beyond his reach for now. But that won’t put Poch off.
The Argentine is attempting to build a dynasty in North London, securing the club’s key players on long term contracts, and snapping up one of the continent’s most exciting midfielders would only make Spurs’ future that little bit brighter.
Bild reported last summer that Tottenham had been scouting the Germany Under-21 international for some time and, in the subsequent nine months, his performances have only reinforced the notion that he could outgrow the Rhineland as he helps drag Hoffenheim from mid-table to the verge of Champions League qualification.
Young, hard-working, technically gifted; Amiri would fit in rather well at Tottenham.
