James Tavernier has posted on Instagram after signing a new deal with Rangers that will see the Gers skipper remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2022 – and plenty of former players and current stars reacted.

The 27-year-old has been instrumental in Rangers 2018-19 campaign under Steven Gerrard so far, after the Gers qualified for the Europa League group stage and sit just two points behind Celtic after five league games.

In his 14 league and cup appearances this season, Tavernier has found the back of the net four times as well as creating six strikes. He has also helped defensively, with Gerrard’s side keeping seven clean sheets in those matches.

Tavernier posted on Instagram after agreeing a new deal with Rangers, which will give the Scottish giants hope of keeping their captain after Premier League and Championship clubs reportedly wanted to take him south in the summer window.

Tavernier is now in his fourth season after joining Rangers from Wigan in the summer of 2015, and has since clocked up 154 appearances in all competitions – scoring 30 and creating 45.

Summer exits Fabio Cardoso, Jason Cummings and Jak Alwnick commented on his post, congratulating the right-back, as did current stars Daniel Candeias and Eros Grezda as well as Rangers legend Nacho Novo.

Tavernier Comments

Tavernier is expected to start on the right side of defence on Thursday evening as Rangers begin their Europa League group stage campaign away in Spain again La Liga outfit Villarreal.
