Arsenal have been linked with many playmakers so far this month, but it seems that they could actually be closing in on a new signing.

Emile Smith Rowe’s superb performance have eased the need for a new number 10, with a loan move for Martin Odegaard now in the pipeline.

The Athletic report that technical director Edu has been in talks with Real Madrid for the last week in an attempt to close a deal for Odegaard.

The 22-year-old has struggled for first-team football this season, despite bagging seven goals and nine assists on loan at Real Sociedad last season.

Sociedad themselves want to sign Odegaard, but the Norwegian playmaker could now end up moving to North London to spend the rest of the season with Arsenal.

One man who knows Arsenal and Odegaard very well is Nacho Monreal, who was a Gunners favourite and played with Odegaard at Sociedad.

So what does he think about the talented playmaker? Last season, Monreal was quoted by Tribuna as saying that Odegaard surprised him ‘a lot’ with Sociedad.

Monreal added that he thinks Odegaard is ‘special’ having seen him in training and played with him, even praising his character as a person – and his verdict should be very encouraging for Arsenal fans.

“He’s surprised me a lot,” said Monreal. “When you see him in training and playing, you realise that he’s a special player. And, as a person too, he’s a good lad,” he added.
