West Bromwich Albion winger Nacer Chadli has opened up to the club’s official website about his goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring on 82 minutes at The Hawthorns as Tony Pulis’s side looked on course for a big win.

But Dele Alli equalised for Tottenham in the final stages to earn his side a deserved point

It was the first time that Chadli had faced Spurs since leaving North London in the summer in a £13 million deal.

Despite the fact that his goal came quite late in the match, the Belgian attacker maintained respect for his former club and opted against celebrating.

Chadli spent three years at Tottenham and he said to West Brom’s website that his decision not to celebrate was simply due to respecting his old side.

He said: “There was no celebration out of respect. It was my first club when I came to England and I respect the club, the people there and especially the fans. I’m happy to score, I’m always happy to score.”

He netted 25 times in over 100 appearances for Tottenham, though his first-team prospects looked bleak this season so a move away was always the right choice for Chadli.

That was his fourth goal in five Premier League games for the Baggies, who spent a club-record fee on him, but he seems hell-bent on paying it back.
