Naby Keita may have already played his final game for Liverpool after Jürgen Klopp made an admission regarding the 28-year-old on Friday.

What’s the story?

Well, the Liverpool No.8 is now injured – again.

During a press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Manchester City, Klopp revealed that Keita returned from international duty with Guinea carrying a muscle problem.

Liverpool‘s official website quote the German as saying: “Naby is out, he came back with a muscle injury from the national team. We will see how long it takes but obviously the season is not too long anymore. There is a chance that Naby comes back but we have to wait a little bit.”

Now, that is no surprise as far as Liverpool fans are concerned – Keita has missed 84 games in total through injury since his £52.75m move from RB Leipzig back in 2018.

However, the £130,000-a-week man’s latest issue could mean he has already played his final game for Liverpool.

Keita’s contract at Anfield expires in July, and according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, he will be leaving Merseyside as the Reds opt against an extension.

Therefore – depending on the severity of his latest injury, which is yet to be revealed – he may not play another game this season, bringing a premature end to his hugely disappointing spell at Liverpool.

Is Naby Keita Liverpool’s worst signing under Jürgen Klopp?

There is definitely an argument to be made for Keita being Klopp’s worst signing at Anfield.

Of course, the likes of Andy Lonergan and Steven Caulker were strange additions, but they didn’t cost the Reds a huge transfer fee.

In stark contrast, Keita cost £52.75m – making him one of Klopp’s most expensive signings after Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Darwin Nunez – while his aforementioned salary is also significant.

Since the Guinean’s arrival, he has only scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 129 appearances for Liverpool, meaning the Reds have paid almost £5m per goal.

Keita has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Liverpool, but taking into account the transfer fee and his wages, he may well be Klopp’s worst signing on Merseyside, if not throughout the German’s entire managerial career.
