The Lyon ace was close to joining Liverpool earlier this summer.
Lyon ace Nabil Fekir spoke to reporters regarding his failed move to Liverpool in the summer, and insisted that he has fully come to terms with missing out on a switch to the Premier League, as quoted by the Express, in stark contrast to what his manager Bruno Genesio believes.
The 25-year-old was on the verge of signing for the Reds in a £53 million deal earlier this summer, before his proposed move collapsed at the 11th hour.
Genesio told reporters how Fekir is struggling to cope, after his failed move to Anfield:
“It is never easy accepting this kind of situation, when you are very near to signing for a club where you want to go. Where you want to reach another level and to give a boost to your career. But as I said, it could have been worse for him. He is at Lyon, at a strong club, he is captain of a team who plays in the Champions League.”
Many believe that the French World Cup winner’s long standing knee problem was a major reason why Liverpool chose to pull the plug on the deal, whilst others have claimed that the way in which the Merseyside outfit wanted to structure their payments for the attacking midfielder were deemed as unacceptable by Lyon.
Fekir was in quite simply sensational form in France last season, racking up 23 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions, and Reds fans would surely love to see him at Anfield.
The attacking midfielder seemed to rule out a switch to Liverpool, however, when speaking to reporters, as quoted by the Express:
“Yes, the missed transfer to Liverpool is totally digested. These are things that happen. It’s like that. We must advance. It’s ancient history. I heard several things. The real reason is that they (Liverpool) only know it”
Whether Liverpool will go back in for Fekir, though, remains to be seen.
