It’s no secret that Liverpool will probably be bolstering their defence this summer.

That’s what they failed to do last summer and now the Reds, as reigning Premier League champions, are a massive 25 points behind leaders Manchester City due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

So yes, a couple of new central defenders wouldn’t go amiss for Liverpool once the transfer window opens, but they also need a playmaker.

Club legend Jamie Carragher claimed earlier this month that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards hadn’t adequately replaced Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona three years ago.

And given the lack of creation among their front three since the turn of the year, it’s obvious that they could do with a number 10 – and another look at Nabil Fekir may just interest fans.

Quite famously, the French attacker failed a medical to join Liverpool in a £53 million deal almost three years ago, due to a knee problem.

But the 27-year-old, who would’ve been Coutinho’s replacement, has 57 Liga appearances for Real Betis since the start of the 2019-20 campaign in what should be considered a good indication that he isn’t carrying any worrying knocks.

Another interesting development from today is the report that he’s reportedly available for only £22 million now, some £30 million cheaper than what he was once valued at.

There’s already talk of him leaving Betis and maybe, just maybe, Liverpool fans – some of whom will undoubtedly still feel a little raw after the plug was pulled in 2018 – would want to see Klopp and Michael Edwards take another run at this.
