Tottenham Hotspur-owned Nabil Bentaleb has told Schalke’s official website that he is willing to play even at left-back for his new team.
Bentaleb joined German club Schalke on a season-long loan deal from Premier League outfit Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old midfielder had been struggling for playing time at Spurs for the past few months.
The Algeria international has revealed that he is open to playing anywhere for Schalke, even at left-back.
“I want to bring myself and my qualities to the side,” Bentaleb told Schalke’s official website when asked how he sees his role in the team.
“I can play as a ‘number six’ but I prefer to play higher up, but it is up to the coach to decide where he thinks I am best.
“Even if he says that I have to play at left back. It would be very unfamiliar, but it would be no problem for me. I will always give everything in whatever position I play.”
Bentaleb is a promising and talented young midfielder, and he should prove to be a good signing for Schalke.
Competition for places in the Tottenham midfield is fierce, and the Algerian made a good decision in leaving White Hart Lane for the 2016-17 campaign.
Playing regular first-team competitive football is key for Bentaleb to develop and improve his game.
It is clear from the midfielder’s comments that he is desperate to play, and Schalke head coach Markus Weinzierl should look to make the most of the youngster’s determination to succeed.
Schalke will return to action on Friday evening when they take on Bayern Munich at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen in the Bundesliga.
