Mystery of Steve Bruce's delayed start as Sheffield Wednesday manager appears to have been explained by son, Alex

Bruce Snr does not officially start work until February 1 at Sheffield Wednesday.

The mystery of Steve Bruce’s delayed start as Sheffield Wednesday manager appears to have been finally explained by his son, Alex.

Bruce was announced as Jos Luhukay’s successor last Wednesday, but does not officially start work until February 1.

Speculation as to why that may be is rife around Hillsborough, with a knee operation and England’s cricket tour of the West Indies offered as reasons so far.

But the local reporter Alan Biggs seems to have got to the bottom of things, with the following tweet of his ‘liked’ by Bruce Jnr over the weekend.

The younger Bruce was part of the Sheffield Wednesday side promoted via the League One play-offs 14 years ago.

The 34-year-old is now on the books of the Owls’ Championship rivals, Wigan Athletic.

Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Lee Bullen will continue to lead Wednesday until Bruce Snr’s arrival.
