DC United ace Luciano Acosta is reportedly wanted in England.

Newcastle United secured a big deal for Miguel Almiron in January, taking the rare step of spending huge money on a player from Major League Soccer.

Almiron had dazzled with Atlanta United, and Rafael Benited had seen enough to break Newcastle’s transfer record in order to lure the Paraguayan to Tyneside.

He has shown flashes of his ability so far, but will more likely be a star next season once he’s had a few months of experience in the Premier League.

Even with Almiron’s arrival, another creative midfielder may be needed at St James’ Park, and another MLS player should be on the radar in DC United’s Luciano Acosta.

Acosta, 24, was one of the top attacking midfielders in MLS last season, notching 10 goals an 15 assists whilst thriving alongside Wayne Rooney with DC United.

The Athletic now report that, after a move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through in January, a mystery mid-table club in the Premier League now want Acosta, and Newcastle should be interested.

The Argentine has different flexibility to Almiron, able to play as a central midfielder of number 10, providing great quality on the ball and creativity around the box.

Newcastle may well lose Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden this summer, so adding a player who can play deep, or further forward if needed, would be a smart move by boss Benitez.

Signing another MLS player could be a gamble, but Acosta has been a star in America just like Almiron, and having spent so long watching MLS football for Almiron’s signature, it would be little surprise if Newcastle were the team interested in Acosta.
