Everton face competition for midfielder Andre Gomes.

According to Sport, Barcelona are closing in on a deal to sell Andre Gomes, with Everton leading the race in a move worth around £26million.
Gomes, 25, is currently on loan at Everton having suffered two miserable years with Barcelona, where he was heavily criticised by fans and cast aside by boss Ernesto Valverde.
Everton fans have seen glimpses of the player Barca thought they were signing, and whilst fitness issues have cropped up on occasion, the Toffees are pressing ahead with a permanent move.
Sport claim Everton would be paying between €25million and €30million (£21.6million and £26million) for Gomes, but there may yet be a twist as a mystery club are rivalling them for the Portuguese international.
Many will wonder who that club may be, and it has to be said that Tottenham Hotspur may well enter the race. After all, The Telegraph reported in December that Spurs had been scouting Gomes in action for Everton against Liverpool.
The clues do add up; Tottenham need a midfielder after selling Mousa Dembele in January, and Gomes has been linked with Spurs on a number of occasions before making the move to Goodison Park.

He has quality on the ball and has impressed in the Premier League, whilst the figures talked about wouldn’t break the Tottenham bank, and they’ll know that they can offer European football – which Everton, right now, cannot.
There may of course be other clubs keen, but Tottenham scouting Gomes and desperately needing midfield help points to Spurs potentially being the mystery club in the race. It now remains to be seen where Gomes ends up this summer.
