It may not get the credit it deserves, but what an assist Jordan Henderson bagged for Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s win at Manchester United today.
The Reds absolutely dismantled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side 5-0 at Old Trafford.
Salah, Liverpool’s best player by a million miles this season, completed his hat-trick early in the second half, poking past David de Gea.
But it was a sublime outside-of-the-boot pass from Henderson which set up his Egyptian teammate.
Here’s what Dion Dublin told BBC Sport: “My word, Jordan Henderson. He is one yard inside the Manchester United and he plays a ball with the outside of his boot that dissects the Manchester United centre-backs and what a finish.”
Point proven?
Henderson, a £20 million signing by Liverpool back in 2011, will take extra satisfaction with the pass due to who was watching on.
Legendary Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson was in the crowd and the Scottish icon previously admitted that he had reservations about signing the England international, who was then at Sunderland.
So for Henderson to have a brilliant game, and play that pass, must have felt special for the 31-year-old midfielder.
Of course, he has already proven that Ferguson was wrong to overlook him, having captained Liverpool to a Champions League and Premier League title since 2019.
But a pass of that calibre just might have reignited the feeling of regret inside Ferguson.
