Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter in awe of what Mark McGuiness did against Burton Albion for Ipswich recently, after a 30-second clip emerged.
The towering centre-back – currently on a season-long loan with the Tractor Boys from Arsenal – shone in the 2-1 win, where his composure on the ball stood out.
In the aforementioned footage, McGuiness shows his awareness and intelligence by pulling off three excellent drag-backs to evade his man.
The first of which sees him slide in to win the ball, before manipulating the ball wonderfully and starting an attack for Paul Lambert’s side.
Secondly, the clip shows the 19-year-old receiving the ball from his goalkeeper, before dragging the ball back and flicking it past the onrushing opposition attacker.
Lastly, the Ireland-born teenager performs yet another drag-back, before surging up the field and getting Ipswich on the attack once again.
This footage is hugely encouraging.
Not just because it shows an out-on-loan Arsenal player oozing confidence, but because this is seemingly how Mikel Arteta wants his centre-backs to play, taking risks on the ball.
It would suggest that the defender might have a future at the Emirates if he continues to develop his already-impressive ball playing ability.
