Edon Zhegrova has admitted that he has offers from England amid speculation linking him to Wolverhampton Wanderers but, speaking to Ina-Online, securing a permanent contract at Basel remains his top priority.
What is it with Basel and talented young wingers?
Mo Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri, Champions League winners at Liverpool, both spent their formative years leaving full-backs for dead in the Swiss Super League and a man nicknamed the ‘Kosovan Messi’ is now following in their feted footsteps.
The German-born winger has caught the eye of high-flying Wolves after producing six goals and assists during a breakthrough season, according to the Star (26 April, page 40).
But, while Wolves are one of the most ambitious, forward-thinking clubs in European football, with a happy habit of helping talented youngsters realise their potential, not even the lure of Molineux is strong enough to turn Zhegrova’s head.

“Basel have not triggered the purchase option (in my contract) due to the financial crisis. (But) they are still interested and want to buy me,” says the 21-year-old, who is on loan at Basel from Genk.
“I have many offers from Germany, France, England, etc. My wish is to stay in Basel.”
There is still a chink of light for Wolves, however.
Zhegrova admits that the ‘situation is not good’ for Basel, who may struggle to pay the kind of fee Genk are looking for in an era where clubs the world over are being forced to watch their wallet.
