Reported Newcastle United target Seko Fofana has stated his intention to remain with RC Lens this season despite interest from the Premier League club.
Speaking to Eurosport France, the French midfielder revealed that his aim this season is to stay with the Ligue 1 side, who again look set for a shock high-place finish in the division, who last campaign ended seventh in the standings after just being promoted from Ligue 2.
Lens have been one of the stories of European football since 2020, with Fofana the embodiment of the club’s rise up the ranks in France. The midfielder has been one of the best players in the country, with the 26-year-old bagging eight goals in all competitions this season.
Indeed, Fofana was named GFFN’s player of 2021, and now, Newcastle are said to be been on the midfielder, with Foot Mercato reporting that the Toon view the Lens star as an ideal signing this month.
With the Daily Mail reporting that the midfielder could leave for just £14m, the Premier League could be Fofana’s next destination. However, the Ivory Coast international has no intention of leaving the French club this season.
Fofana said when asked about recent speculation around his future with Newcastle interested: “My wish is to continue the adventure and to go as far as possible, I always said that I felt good here.”
Fofana could be perfect summer signing if Newcastle stay up

The Paris-born midfielder has established himself this season as one of Ligue 1’s new shining stars. And for Newcastle, Fofana could be a perfect signing for the club if the northeast side retain their Premier League status this campaign.
The 26-year-old is in the prime of his career and has shown over the past 18 months to be an incredible talent from an unfancied club. And if Newcastle can stay in the Premier League this season, Fofana would be an ideal play to command and lead from the midfield next season.
