Alex Crook has told talkSPORT that Brighton want in ‘excess of £50 million’ for reported Arsenal target Ben White.

It has been an eventful 24 hours for those in Arsenal colours because the transfer rumour mill in North London has hit the roof.

From Aston Villa seeing a bid rejected for Emile Smith Rowe to Arsenal also seeing their £40 million offer for Brighton’s ball-playing defender being turned down, according to Sky Sports.

Arsenal fans aren’t used to such transfer action, but this might just be the start of a chaotic summer for those in the Emirates boardroom.

Well, talkSPORT reporter, Crook, shared an update on that matter involving White and what Brighton’s thinking behind this situation is now.

“I am hearing from multiple sources that Brighton have rejected an opening bid from Arsenal for the England centre-half, Ben White,” said Crook.

“£40 million is what Arsenal are willing to pay. Brighton have said ‘no thanks, come back with a few more pounds’.

“My understanding on that situation is that Brighton want in excess of £50 million to even contemplate selling White.

“And there will be bigger clubs than Arsenal involved in this. I know Liverpool have been massive admirers of him. He’s on Manchester United’s radar as well.”

If Arsenal can secure White’s services then he walks straight into their starting XI without any hesitation.

Even though White played for a team that finished in the bottom half during the recently concluded campaign, he still outperformed any of Arsenal’s centre-backs.

Perhaps baring someone like Gabriel, who lost his place towards the back end of the campaign, not many of Arsenal’s centre-backs can hold their head high.

And after failing to secure European football for the first time in 25 years, Arsenal have to show some serious transfer power and financial muscle if they are to get back to their best.
