Daniel Ek confirmed on Saturday that he has indeed tried to buy Arsenal off owner Stan Kroenke.

There were reports circulating yesterday that despite a lot of hype around the boyhood Arsenal and Spotify founder taking over the Emirates Stadium club, no offer had actually been made.

But the Swedish billionaire refuted this on Saturday in a statement that he released on Twitter, confirming that he had made a bid that was turned down by Kroenke Sports Entertainment.

The Kroenke’s told Ek that they ‘do not need the money’ and now it remains to be seen how things advance.

But Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed Ek has no plans on walking away from this venture despite being knocked back.

He told Sky Sports News: “My understanding of the situation is Daniel Ek made a bid in the region of £1.8 billion at the start of this week. That bid was rejected and obviously he would prefer it it kept confidential. He doesn’t want to release this information into the public domain.

“The reason Daniel Ek released this statement is to set the record straight. He didn’t want Arsenal fans to think he had been misleading them. He wanted to be as transparent as possible. He respects the fact that bid has been turned down, but that bid remains on the table.

“He’s still keen to buy Arsenal and he’s ready and willing to speak to the owners if they change their mind. My understand is he’s still very keen and he’s not going away.”

How Arsenal fans would love this to materialise.

Not only is Ek a lifelong fan of the North London club, but he has promised that supporters will have an input over the club’s direction if he were to ascend to the throne at the Emirates Stadium.

His interest came on the back of the botched European Super League, which Arsenal were a founding member of.

Suffice to say that Gunners supporters were infuriated by this – along with the fanbase of every other club involved – and it led to Kroenke’s popularity plummeting to a very new and potentially irreversible low.
