Newcastle United are expecting a quiet transfer deadline day, according to Sky (10:14).

Newcastle had been on the hunt for new additions, with a defender still on their wishlist.

But after their move for Arsenal’s Rob Holding has failed, Sky are not anticipating much movement around St. James’ Park today.

Newcastle are yet to bring in a player on loan this summer, so they still have room to manoeuvre in that sense, but they may simply opt to stick with what they have.

Indeed, apparently only a ‘mouth-watering’ deal could tempt them into making a move today.

“They wanted to bring in a centre-back and they were in for Arsenal’s Rob Holding but he is part of Mikel Arteta’s plans and will stay now at Arsenal,” Keith Downie told Sky.

“Bruce has his full quota of loans available to him and he does have history of signing players on loan on deadline day – in the last two windows, he’s brought to Newcastle Danny Rose and Andy Carroll but my understanding is that they’ve done the majority of their work.”

Even if Newcastle do fail to bring in a new player today, their window has been relatively successful.

The additions of Jamal Lewis and Callum Wilson already look to be excellent ones, while Ryan Fraser and Jeff Hendrick should also prove to be solid recruits as the campaign progresses.
