Writing in his Q&A session prior to Leeds’ clash with Brighton on Saturday, Phil Hay has shared why Tyler Roberts has been missing from Leeds United’s squad as of late.
The Welsh midfielder’s absence lately has largely gone unexplained, but amid unconfirmed rumours on social media about a coronavirus outbreak within Leeds’ squad, Phil Hay has cleared up why Roberts has been missing.
“Leeds have taken a policy of making no comment on Covid cases. My understanding is that Roberts was affected by it, hence his recent absence, but that was never confirmed. What we do know is that when Bielsa was asked on Thursday, he said Phillips was the only new absentee,” Hay wrote.

We can only hope that Roberts has fully recovered and he’s not suffering from any long-term symptoms.
As Hay says, Leeds have been coy when it comes to speaking about the virus within their squad, but it seems as though they’re managing it quite well.
Indeed, a number of squads have had large outbreaks that have led to training ground closures and game postponements, but Roberts’ issue doesn’t seem to have effected the majority of players, as Thorp Arch has remained open.
Bielsa said this week that Kalvin Phillips is the only player unavailable for the Brighton game, so we can only assume that Roberts has now tested negative and he’s ready to return to action.
