Arsenal have been in talks with captain Martin Odegaard over a new contract.
That is according to journalist Charles Watts. Martin Odegaard has two years left on his current deal, but it looks like he could be set to sign a new one.
Speaking to TEAMtalk about the midfielder’s future at Arsenal, Watts said: “They have spent a lot of time getting a lot of the key players signed up at the club and Odegaard and Ben White are the final two.
“And my understanding is that talks have been taking place fairly recently to try to get the deal to a stage where it can be done.”
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Aaron Ramsdale have all put pen to paper on fresh deals this year, and Arsenal will now be hoping that Odegaard follows suit.
Arsenal should be able to tie Martin Odegaard down to a new contract
The Emirates may just be the place to be right now. Mikel Arteta looks to be building something special there, with the Spaniard having assembled a young squad that was able to challenge for the title last season.
Arsenal are in the Champions League again and with the players they have, they should be able to retain their position in the competition.
The Gunners are also unlikely to lose key men like Saka and Martinelli anytime soon after their decision to sign contract extensions, so the team should remain competitive going forward.

When you consider all of that, Arsenal should feel confident about keeping hold of Odegaard and getting him to put pen to paper on a new deal. There are not too many reasons for him to leave north London, if any at all.
Ultimately, then, you would expect him to follow the same path as Saka, Martinelli, Saliba and Ramsdale and give Arteta another huge boost.
