Liverpool have been encouraged to go and sign Chelsea powerhouse Antonio Rudiger – by a certain Jamie Redknapp.

Rudiger was Chelsea’s hero last night as the Blues won 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur to move into a Carabao Cup final.

The Germany international has been linked with a summer transfer to Liverpool when his contract expires.

And with no sign of an extension being signed anytime soon, the 28-year-old, at the moment, looks set to leave Stamford Bridge.

Redknapp was working as a pundit live on Sky Sports last night, when the former Liverpool midfielder encouraged his boyhood club to take Rudiger – who cost the Blues £29 million – to Anfield.

He said: “I look at my team, Liverpool. You can imagine him alongside Van Dijk. He’s free transfer in the summer, not going to cost you any money. Just obviously a massive wage is what he will want.”

Not going to happen

Liverpool supporters would certainly take him – well, a lot of them.

Since Thomas Tuchel took the reins in West London, Rudiger has looked a completely different player to the one who Frank Lampard exiled at Chelsea.

We’re talking about someone who helped the Blues win a Champions League title last season and Liverpool fans would definitely be interested.

Thing is, Jurgen Klopp won’t be in the running for him.

The Merseysiders were linked with Rudiger last summer too and wound up signing Ibrahima Konate, who joined Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez at Anfield.

Nowadays, Liverpool simply don’t need additional central defenders and despite being available on a Bosman, Rudiger won’t be coming to the Reds.
