South American football expert, Tim Vickery, has told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (23/09/20 at 1:15 pm) that he’s surprised Arsenal are willing to let Lucas Torreira leave.
Spanish outlet AS have reported that the Uruguayan is close to sealing a move to Atletico Madrid – Vickery made it clear that he’s a player that could still be ‘very useful’ to Arsenal.
The Gunners signed the aggressive midfielder in 2018 when they paid Italian outfit Sampdoria £26 million for his services [BBC Sport].
Amid rumours of his imminent departure from North London, Vickery shared that the Arsenal man would be a ‘great fit’ in Madrid.
“Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeone would be such a great fit,” Vickery told Sky Sports. “It’s a side Atletico with a Uruguayan ethic.
“Lucas Torreira’s a little pac-man in the midfield. Biting up everything in front of him. Dominating the space there. You’d think that he deserves a club, with all due respect to Torino, a little bit more competitive.
“My surprise here perhaps is that Arsenal are prepared to let him go. I wonder what Arsenal fans think about this because he has always looked to me to be a player who is very useful to the cause.”

Whilst Arsenal have been rising from the ashes with Mikel Arteta at the helm during these past few months, Torreira has been one of those players who has had to watch his side’s success from the sidelines.
The likes of Granit Xhaka have thrived under Arteta, whilst even Mohamed Elneny has pushed ahead of Torreira in the midfield pecking order.
The positive for Arsenal is that they could potentially get some serious dough by selling their 2018 signing, which in turn, could help Arteta land some dream signings.
