Jamie Redknapp has opened up about his love for Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish on the Harry Redknapp podcast.
Grealish has taken great acclaim for his performances for Aston Villa and England this season.
The 25-year-old’s form for Dean Smith’s side has pushed him into the Three Lions set-up.
And Redknapp says that Grealish’s performance for England against Belgium recently, caused so many people to message him.
“Jack Grealish is brilliant,” Redknapp began. “He’s such a special talent. He’s got the rascal gene as we all know, but we need players like that.
“I hate to compare them, but I always loved playing with someone like a McManaman or a Gascoigne, someone who could just do something special.
“It brings the crowd to life and the players, when you’ve got players who can do special things like he can.
“Against Belgium, who were the number one team in the world, he lit the game up. My phone went mad after. When he played everyone was like ‘this is great, this is what we want to see’.”
It is somewhat of a surprise that it took so long for Grealish to be given an opportunity on the international stage.
Now that he has, the Villa man looks a shoo-in to make England’s Euro 2020 squad, though.
Grealish has injected life into England’s attack on every appearance he has made for Gareth Southgate’s side and his form at Villa continues to be hugely impressively.
Grealish has scored six goals and claimed 10 assists in just 21 Premier League games this term, as he enjoys the best season of his career to date.
