Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has admitted that he was contemplating retiring from football at one point due to his injury problems.
The striker had a number of hamstring issues a few years ago, but luckily, it seems as though he’s left those problems in the past.
However, it seems as though his past injuries could have severely affected his career.
Indeed, the attacker’s injury issues were so frustrating at one point that he actually considered giving up the game entirely.
What’s been said?
Antonio shared how he felt about his injuries.
“The frustration, I just wanted to leave the stadium, I didn’t want to be around football. My mind was completely gone, I was talking about retirement and all sorts, because it was constantly happening and it was a constant repeat. In my head I was saying ‘I don’t want to play football anymore, I just want to retire.’ But it’s important to be able to step away from the training ground and not seeing the boys or watching the boys train when you know you can’t train, it’s definitely one of the most difficult things to be injured and not be involved,” Antonio said.

Football’s loss
Antonio may have considered retiring at one point, but we’re so lucky that he didn’t.
Of course, losing him would have been a massive blow for West Ham, but Antonio is also one of the most entertaining players in the Premier League to watch as a neutral and he’s also a brilliant character.
If the Jamaican had hung up his boots it would have been football’s loss.
