Josh Brownhill insisted that his future lies at Burnley, despite reported interest from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, West Ham United and Wolves, while speaking to Sky Sports.

Earlier this week, LancsLive played down reports suggesting that a man who arrived at Turf Moor just 14 months ago could be on the move again.

Brownhill, a £9 million signing from Bristol City, apparently feels that a long-term stay in Sean Dyche’s industrious engine room is exactly what he needs as he looks to establish himself as one of the division’s best.

Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s trip to Everton, Brownhill did not exactly sound like a man angling for a fresh start.

It seems that LancsLive were right on the money.

“When you do well, you get recognition for it,” said the one-time Manchester United youngster, who models his game on Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson.

“There’s a lot of people who will talk, but you tend to not listen to them.

“I’m here at Burnley and my main goal is to do well here and to keep the club in the Premier League. Then it’s onto next season and to progress even more.

“Whatever people talk about, it’s not for me to listen. It’s up to me to crack on with my work and to work hard here.”

TEAMtalk reports that Aston Villa, Wolves, Southampton and Crystal Palace have all been scouting Brownhill in recent months.

As have a West Ham side who missed out on their long-time transfer target in January 2020.

Speaking to the Daily Star (5 July, page 47), Brownhill admitted that West Ham’s precarious place in the Premier League table (they were in the relegation zone at the time) put him off a potential switch to the London Stadium.

Some 12 months on, West Ham are flying high, dreaming big and chasing Champions League qualification.
