Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that West Ham have opened talks with Ecuadorian outfit Independiente about the possible signing of Moises Caicedo.
Unfortunately, the Hammers aren’t the only club in England who’ve had that idea as Castle says that Manchester United are also in for him.
“This is Moises Caicedo, who is an Ecuador international, a newly-minted Ecuador international, he made his debut for the country in October in a World Cup qualifying tie, he’s played four times for them and scored once. He turned 19 just last month, he’s at Independiente in Ecuador,” Castles said.
“My information is that both West Ham United and Manchester United have been in contact with Independiente to ask about the framework of a deal, whether they are open to selling the player, how much it would cost, when they’d be able to do it.
“They are open to selling, the price I’m told is €6m (£5.5m), plus 20 per cent of any future sale.”
This certainly sounds like an interesting deal for West Ham.
Moises Caicedo is a very highly rated young midfielder, and the fact that he’s scored twice in the Copa Libertadores this season at the age of just 19 shows just what a talent he is.
Of course, West Ham signing a highly rated youngster from South America brings back visions of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, and is Caicedo goes on to have a career even half as good as theirs turned out to be, he will be an unbelievable player.
Of course, he’s never played in a top league and he still has a lot to prove, but for just £5.5m this could be a risk worth taking for the London club.
